Four ways to split
Example: you expect a low-scoring home win but not which score. 1-0 @ 8.50, 2-0 @ 11.00, 2-1 @ 9.50, staking 300 in total:
| 1-0 | 2-0 | 2-1 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Equal | +656 | +656 | +656 |
| Favourite | +1750 | 0 | 0 |
| Long shot | 0 | +2264 | 0 |
Equal: any of the three returns 956, a profit of 656.
Favourite: four fifths of the money goes on the likeliest, 1-0 (stake 241.15); it profits 1750 and the other two break even exactly.
Long shot: the reverse — on the longest price, 2-0 (stake 233.13); it profits 2264 and the other two break even exactly.
If none of the three land, all of them lose the 300. That is a wrong read, not a problem with the arithmetic.
Your pick
The first three let the market decide where the money goes — Equal spreads it, Favourite loads the shortest price, Long shot the longest. Your pick lets you tap the row numbers on the left and choose: the money tilts to what you picked and the rest break even.
Same three scores staking 300, picking only 2-1 (9.50): it takes 237.43 and profits 1956; 1-0 and 2-0 take 35.29 and 27.27 and break even exactly.
Pick two and the money splits between them so they return the same. Picking 1-0 and 2-1: 143.94 and 128.79, either one profits 923; 2-0 takes 27.27 and breaks even.
Pick every row and it is Equal; pick only the shortest price and it is Favourite; only the longest and it is Long shot — the first three are shortcuts for it.
By target return
Set what you want back rather than what you put in. Same three scores, to return 1000: 117.65 on 1-0, 90.91 on 2-0, 105.26 on 2-1, 313.82 in total. Any of them returns 1000, a profit of 686.
Hedging: a bet already placed
Type the amount you staked into that row’s stake box; the row is fixed and the rest are worked out around it. The total changes from an input into a result.
Example: 100 on a team to win the league at 6.00 last year; they now lead and the field is 2.30:
| Stake now | They win | Field wins | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Equal | 260.87 | +239 | +239 |
| Long shot | 76.92 | +423 | 0 |
Equal locks the profit in — 239 whoever wins. Long shot protects only the stake: the field costs you nothing, and your own team pays more.
More than one row can be filled in — those returns differ, so each row shows its own profit if it lands.
Hedging: the match has already started
Example: 100 on the home win at 4.00 before kick-off; 2-0 up at half time, live prices home 1.50 / draw 4.50 / away 6.50. Two things are easy to get wrong: put 4.00 in the first row (the price you took, not the 1.50 showing now — that ticket is already fixed); and back both the draw and the away win — a football match has three results, so backing only the away win loses both bets to a draw. (If your book prices double chance — draw or away — that is one row instead of two.)
| On draw | On away | Home holds | Draw / away | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Equal | 88.89 | 61.54 | +150 | +150 |
| Favourite | 35.62 | 24.66 | +240 | 0 |
Left alone it is +300 if the home side holds and −100 if they are pegged back or overturned. Equal: 150 more and every result pays +150, so nothing that follows concerns you; Favourite: 60 more and a draw or a comeback goes from −100 to 0, at the price of 60 less when the home side holds.
Where it is used
Markets with many outcomes and long prices — correct score, half-time/full-time, first goalscorer, parlay combinations, hedging.
Already placed one? Type the amount straight into its stake box — that row is fixed and the rest are worked out around it.
